Vitamin B12 - CYANOCOBALAMIN

An important building block for many metabolic processes

Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is a vital vitamin that plays a central role in our health. In chemical terms, vitamin B12 is a coenzyme and has an effect on many key aspects of health. As a coenzyme, it is required by all cells in the body and plays an important role in nerve protection, blood formation, cell division, DNA synthesis, energy production and protein metabolism.

Vitamin B12 (cobalamin)

  • contributes to normal energy metabolism
  • contributes to the normal function of the nervous system
  • contributes to normal psychological function
  • contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism
  • contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells
  • contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue
  • contributes to the normal function of the immune system
  • has a function in cell division

The daily dose of vitamin B12 is only 2.5 micrograms, which is significantly lower than other vitamins. However, as the human body cannot produce vitamin B12 itself, it must be ingested in sufficient quantities through the diet. Inadequate intake of vitamin B12 through food leads to a vitamin B12 deficiency, which can have serious health consequences.

As vitamin B12 is almost exclusively found in food of animal origin, vegans and vegetarians are particularly at risk of suffering from a vitamin B12 deficiency. This also applies to older people, as the ability to absorb and utilize vitamin B12 from food decreases with age.
